The title of this blog came to mind not too long ago. Is it the end of Corporate America and what we once thought was our way to financial freedom, prosperity, and living the “American Dream?” The shift of people walking away from their jobs has been at an alarming rate. 2020 was the year of people looking at life and the way it’s been for so long and decided it’s time for change. Maybe it was you that made that change for yourself.
There were people leaving the confines of their cities and moving elsewhere for a better life ( I was one of them). Life was seen in a different light, so many people were tired of a life of monotony. Sadly, some of us are still fighting to make it with inflation that happened not too long after 2020 and the world opening back up slowly..
So many people also decided to pursue their dreams and aspirations. New businesses started, freelancing started, the pace of life changed and slowed down. TikTok became the business hub for people to buy things that benefited them and at an affordable price. The truth of life started to show itself and we are all waking up to so much.
Companies shifted to working from home (they were forced to) and now people refused to go back to the office. The medical field shifted where employees refused the vaccines which caused shortages in the most important positions (doctors, nurses, technicians). When it came time for employees to come back to the office, most didn’t care for it. The camaraderie wasn’t a necessity anymore, it was stay home, do your job and clock out to go spend time with your family and friends.
Most major cities no longer have office spaces. Some of the biggest cities in the United States are desolate in downtown areas. Either companies no longer work from the office, they’ve condensed their office spaces or people have left the bigger companies who forced people back into office spaces. When you get comfortable with a work/life balance, being in an office 3-5 days a week no longer works. Being in traffic or on public transportation is not something a lot of us want to do anymore.
After Gen X, the generations behind us no longer care for Corporate America. Young people are less inclined to follow the college and debt into Corporate America propaganda. So many young people are quitting jobs due to a myriad of reasons. Whether it’s boredom, no advancement for growth within the company, company culture, not making enough money, the monotony of company culture doesn’t fit into what they want to do with their lives.
Is it the end of Corporate America within the next few years? There’s a possibility, especially with artificial intelligence in the mix and the opportunity to cut costs, let humans go and allow A.I. to do the work. Who knows what’s to come in the next few years but it’s looking like it’s the end of Corporate America.
Thanks for reading this blog, have a good week, be good and go accomplish your goals!
